According to Newman enjoyment plays a big role in the motivation to acquire knowledge.  Hey says, “When we are free from necessary duties and cares that we are in a condition for desiring to see, to hear, and to learn.”  (John Henry Newman p. 515)  I believe he is implying that in our free time we do what we enjoy.  For some of us that is the desire to see, to hear, and to learn.  For me learning is most enjoyable for its value.  I like to do things for a purpose.  You learn what you want to.  Therefore meaning you learn what is enjoyable and valuable to you.
