The beggining of education as we know of it today was basicly created by Newman, the liberal education that he explains in his passage is basicly what most colleges have become today. Newman was one of the few from his time that recognized both the need for general knowledge and wisdom along with an education preparing for an occupation. But honestly Newman had a few flaws in his great idea’s, and i feel that is being seen in public schools today, “at least in tacoma washington.” for instance the whole knowledge isnt worth aquiring for social purposes because then is is useless. The problem with that statement; even though yes knowledge must be aquired through ones own self motivation, their is a huge problem with that statement. One is that many people, would have no idea of what kind of occupation to go into and would spend probably millions of dollars on school to try to figure it out if we were not somewhat recruited by specific occupations. For instance I was told while i was working construction to maybe look into engineering because its something i might enjoy, so i am taking a class introducing me to engineering and i love it. But if it were not for society and the workforce i probably would have never even thought about engineeringbecause i dont like math very much, and i would have missed out on many educational opportunities. And possibly be stuck in a career i dont like. So honestly i feel that society does have an input on education and i feel that i really needs to when it comes to an occupation, but i do agree that yes one does need to be self motivated and learn more than just one area and have a broad sense of knowledge and wisdom. For instance, although i may go into engineering, i will most likely continue to also study, business, philosophy, religion, writting, ect… Honestly im going to throw out that i really enjoy to learn, somedays, yes i am a little bit less motivated, but overall i enjoy to learn, whether it is writing, religion, rebuilding and engine, fixing a house, history, or whatever. I basicly enjoy to learn, but i do understand that many people arnt very motivated with what they do not enjoy. And although their are many things that i like to learn even i could never pass beauty school because i would be bored out of my mind and hate most the work and honestly not even want to try. So i see how some people are really not as motivated in specific things. So for me education is very important for its own sake, for just knowledge, fo understanding the world around me, for understanding myself, not as much as the fact i can make more money with a college degree. because honestly i can make plenty of money in real estate while the markets booming, and begin flipping houses fixing them up myself, but i would miss out on so much education which is why im here. So im sure ive answered all the questions within both of these blogs, i didnt read the prompt until after i wrote the first one, “my bad,” so i believe i answered the rest of what was needed in this blog.
and seriously, any critisism or advice at all??? wtf is the point of this without feedback???
i see you put education and knowledge as being related to each other, almost as the same thing. do you not think there is a difference in them? to me knowledge is learning. learning to use to for something, such as thinking for yourself. education, everyone can get that. you can be educated, but not knowing. such as wisdom. here’s education, on the radio i heard wtf could mean “wow! thats fantastic”. thru practice on txt on my phone, wtf means something entirely something else.
